In the battle to win “eyes and cash” (sorry couldn’t resist it), much has been said and written about what encoding format (codec) will be the dominant one into the future.  This is relevant because, as was the case with the BetaMax / VHS battle of yore, the codec which will power digital video will determine many key elements of the whole digital content experience into the future.  In any case, the people at TechCrunch have looked at the issue and have declared H264 the winner of this particular struggle.

And, why, you ask, should we care here at Preview Networks? Well, for one thing, the company made the switch to H264 late last year, and have seen an improvement over the quality of our service and less stress to our servers as H264 delivers smaller file sizes, and greater video quality. In the past four months Preview Networks Filmtrailer App for the iPhone has been gathering reviews galore, rapidly rising to the top-ten list in the English (UK), German, Italian, and Spanish iTunes store. Moreover, Preview Networks now feeds 3 out of the top ten mobile applications that include filmtrailers, and are the only company that provides an automated service to distribute content to the rapidly growing mobile space.

Here and here you can click through to two recent reviews of our service. The first one, by Australia’s MacTalk site, and the second one from ShaswatPatel, a technology blogger who writes about the “Movie Finder” Application for Andoroid which is powered by our service.

And, just in case you haven’t experienced our Filmtrailer App, I leave you with a short demo of it here:

Great news!  We have managed to relaunch our xml feeds through the new version of the Brightcove player. Brightcove is a video player provider that is part owned by Sky News backer News Corp. Brightcove recently integrated with the Times and other News Corp publications as the new video delivery system. The recent upgrade from Version 2 to Version 3 meant we had to do some reprogramming on our side. Due to our recent success we are now in discussion to launch this Brightcove service throughout our European territories and Brightcove see us as an important content partner going forward. This is great news and we are all really excited at play about this exciting step forward.

Since the relaunch of our feed:
• We have updated the Scottish Tv (STV.tv) with all the latest content
• We have just signed a contract with the Guardian to start using our feeds instead of our normal embed player. This will mean that all their journalists and editors will have access to our library of trailers, and eventually all the other EPK material we plan on syndicating on your behalf.
The Times have also implemented the feed

Times

In a statement from Brightcove CEO Jeremy Allaire.

“Times Online can now take advantage of Brightcove 3, our next-generation platform, to help deepen engagement with their 16 million online readers, expand online advertising opportunities and broaden their reach across the web”.

So we are looking to develop lots of traffic with this interesting business development opportunity. We are now working on other exciting integration and our contacts within Brightcove in the UK are actively helping us in this process of setting up trials with: 1. Hearst Digital
2. Bauer Group
3. Northecliffe Media (Daily Mail)
4. Conde Nast 5. Film4 and Channel 4

So far the response has been really excellent and we are expecting to have several new partners on board soon.

Filmtrailers On The Go!

By Stine Bauer Dahlberg General, Preview Networks PR and News, Products Comments Off

In our quest to spread our film trailers to as many people and platforms as possible we have created a video podcast! It is updated as soon as we get a new film added, so almost daily, and it means you can watch all the coolest new trailers on your ipod on the go, on the bus, train, or in the bath, if you so want! You will never miss a trailer again.

Its currently available in a Dutch, Swedish, German or English version and is called New movie / film trailers from www.filmtrailer.com, in the respective language.

In the UK we are mostly excited about the fact that our shiny video podcast have risen so much in popularity. It now ranks 7th on iTunes when you search for “film trailers” and 6th for “cinemas” and that is just after a couple of weeks.

Want to subscribe to it? Go to: iTunes!

If you like it please rate it! We want it to climb even higher

The video podcast can also be found on other podcast sites including:

· Podcast Pickle

· Podcast.com

· Feedburner.com

· Podcastalley.com

And it can obviously play on any video portable device, not just the ipod. We also use the podcast RSS Feed to create a great channel on Miro – an Internet television application: Go to Get Miro to download the program!

So go ahead – enjoy your filmtrailers – in the bath!

(disclaimer: filmtrailer.com takes no responsibility for water damaged ipods following this post)
