If you’ve been following earlier posts, you might have read about the recent trends in online video. However, what has been
happening in the world of mobile video should not go unnoticed.
As the title of the blog and the conclusion from a recent article on ReelSEO suggests, the trend in watching video on mobile phones is huge. The increasing popularity and usage of smart phones has no doubt helped the visual consumer trend.
What exactly are those trends? Here are a few highlights:
- Video streaming makes up 35% of mobile phone usage, globally. (Source: Allot Communications).
- According to The Independent, “the number of European consumers watching video on their mobile phone has increased by 66%” in the last 12 months.
- Additionally, the US mobile video viewer population is expected to grow 30% by the end of 2010 and double by 2013, according to eMarketer.
Our own data supports all of the above. In a recent Preview Networks survey, 5 out of 10 customers indicated that mobile would be one of the main developments in 2010 in regards to distribution of movie assets. We have seen proof of this by the number of mobile movie apps launched in multiple markets.
At least the data is consistent. Mobile video is huge, and only going to get bigger.
