Do you support a large amount of metadata? Can we use on our channel? What about engaging an solution? What does pseudo streaming mean? Knowing and understanding the terminology can be a challenge. There is WTMI (way too much information) moving at the speed of light to keep it all straight.

No need to drop facts about how rapid the space is redefining itself, there are plenty of articles about that. At this point it’s more relevant to shed some light on the ever growing number of terms that online professionals are adding to their vocabulary. Most of us in the online industry are being constantly pushed to improve our jargon to be able to clarify technical setups, explain challenges and emphasize opportunities.

While we are fighting to keep up with the developing online video expressions, our partners and clients are having problems doing the same. Regularly, when meeting potential clientele the reality strikes, when the majority of the time is spent on explanation rather than on valuation of the solution. Furthermore, delivering in-depth pitches or presenting new solutions often lead to new terms being used and result in complex and easily misunderstood messages.

This got me thinking about what can be done to close this vocabulary gap. The first thing that came to my mind was “There must be an for that?” After some research it was pretty obvious – no for that. From here it was pretty clear that an had to be brought to life.  So I created one.

The solution is called the Online Video Dictionary app. With this app, users can quickly and automatically, browse the dictionary or search for specific terms when they are in need of an explanation. The dictionary is based on the most common used terms in the online video industry. The app is free and can be downloaded from Market today. If there are enough requests an version will be made available.

It’s no secret that mobile is an emerging media platform.  According to comScorethe growth in mobile media usage is largely attributable to the growth in smartphone.“  It all started with the iPhone and now the latest research from Gartner forecasts the Android operating system will be powering 49% of smartphones by 2012.  As far as video is concerned, that is very good news. Smartphone sales are forecasted to increase by 58% in 2011, so it’s a great opportunity for content owners to start thinking about expanding their video marketing campaigns and distribution channels.

Melodi Media is a full service mobile agency that has been focusing on this emerging platform since 2001, when customised ringtones were all the rave.  Now with branded video content moving into mainstream marketing plans, they are in a prime position to assist with the move to mobile, which makes them a natural partner for Preview Networks.

Through their content management platform you will find tons of mobile entertainment content choices including games, audio books, video recipes, and film trailers by Preview Networks.  So if you have content to publish, or are thinking about moving beyond online, Melodi might be a nice place to start.

Mobile Video is Huge

By Heather Timmerman Digital Media Trends, mobile Comments Off

If you’ve been following earlier posts, you might have read about the recent trends in online video.  However, what has been happening in the world of mobile video should not go unnoticed.

As the title of the blog and the conclusion from a recent article on ReelSEO suggests, the trend in watching video on mobile phones is huge.  The increasing popularity and usage of smart phones has no doubt helped the visual consumer trend.

What exactly are those trends?  Here are a few highlights:

  • Video streaming makes up 35% of mobile phone usage, globally.  (Source: Allot Communications).
  • According to The Independent, “the number of European consumers watching video on their mobile phone has increased by 66%” in the last 12 months.
  • Additionally, the US mobile video viewer population is expected to grow 30% by the end of 2010 and double by 2013, according to eMarketer.

Our own data supports all of the above.  In a recent Preview Networks survey, 5 out of 10 customers indicated that mobile would be one of the main developments in 2010 in regards to distribution of movie assets.  We have seen proof of this by the number of mobile movie apps launched in multiple markets.

At least the data is consistent.  Mobile video is huge, and only going to get bigger.

It’s all about apps these days and the iBest movie app is all about cinema.   The most popular movie magazine in Italy is now accessible anytime, anywhere, with their new iPhone app.

Best Movie, published by Editoriale Duesse, is the leading monthly movie magazine in Italy with an average certified distribution (circulation) of 160k copies per month. BestMovie.it is the online destination where movie goers can be constantly updated about the cinema world with news, trailers, and previews.

With the addition of the iPhone app to their portfolio, which allows even more insight into the latest movies and gossip, combined with fully loaded social interaction features, iBest is sure to beat download records in Italy.

The app has 5 multimedia sections including a Film & Trailer section which, in collaboration with Preview Networks (the European leader in the distribution of movie trailers on Internet, Mobile and Internet TV) offers movie trailers, synopsis and actor information.  The app also has geolocalisation and GPS capabilities which provides local showtimes wherever you are in Italy.

Editoriale Duesse is also the publisher of the official Box Office Magazine and Chart, and is a very well known and respected publisher in Italy both in the consumer and trade press.

When asked about the impact the new app will have on the Italian movie market, Carlo Maraz Galassi, Country Manager for Preview Networks Italy, had this to say: “The trend is moving to mobile.  Therefore, it just makes sense for movie goers in Italy to have a mobile movie option allowing them to be where the action is at all times.  Editoriale Duesse is proving once more their proficiency in understanding the movie market, both from a consumer and business point of view”.

We’re happy to announce another mobile app has joined our network and is available on iTunes.   My Movies iPhone Pro is now online displaying movie trailers from Preview Networks.  But that’s not the most interesting part of the application.

My Movies truly aims to be a complete movie database package solution by allowing you to keep your collection between multiple clients, platforms, and phones whether online or in a household.  You never have to worry about losing your fantastic movie collection because the application works off of an internal database so you don’t have to be online to search for what movie you should watch tonight.

Perhaps my favorite part of the application from an online marketing perspective is the camera barcode scanning feature that allows you to add a title to your collection or watch a movie trailer instantly while in a video store to determine whether or not it’s worth seeing.

Barcode scanning is nothing new, but it shows the increasing trend of instant gratification and immediate interaction between the average consumer and product on the shelf when it comes to online usage.    Read more about the My Movies iPhone App.
